Pengertian
kapasitor adalah komponen elektronika yang
dapat menyimpan muatan arus listrik di dalam medan listrik sampai batas waktu
tertentu dengan cara mengumpulkan ketidakseimbangan internal dari muatan arus
listrik. Kapasitor ditemukan pertama kali oleh Michael Faraday (1791-1867).
Satuan kapasitor disebut Farad (F). Satu Farad = 9×1011 cm2 yang artinya luas
permukaan kepingan tersebut. Kapasitor disebut juga kondensator. Kata
“kondensator” pertama kali disebut oleh Alessandro Volta seorang ilmuwan Italia
pada tahun 1782 (dari bahasa Italia “condensatore”), yaitu kemampuan alat untuk
menyimpan suatu muatan listrik.
1.Kapasitor Polar
Adalah
kapasitor yang kedua kutubnya mempunyai polaritas (+) positif dan (-) negative mempunyai
nilai kopalisasi yang besar dibandingkan dengan kapasitor yang menggunakan
bahan dielektrik kertas atau lika .
2.Kapasitor Nonpolar
Adalah
pada kutubnya tidak mempunyai kapasitas artinya pada kutub-kutubnya dapat
dipakai terbalik .
